Unlike most artists, who limit photographers to the first three songs, Petty & Co. allow photogs to stay in the pit for the whole show - provided they don’t get in the way of the fans in the front rows. And that’s only fair.

“Inevitably, after every show, there’s someone who’s upset that you didn’t play this or that, but you’re going to be there forever if you play everything. Plus, we want to keep ourselves interested. So I kind of try to rotate as much as I can into the show, and at the same time I want to have a pace. I don’t think you’d want to do a show where there are no hits. I’m from the school of wanting to please the audience.”
